Allison & David’s Summer Engagement Session at the Washington Arboretum | Seattle Engagement Photographer

a wedding couple skip through the forest on their engagement session

There are few better places for an engagement session in Seattle than the Washington Park Arboretum. With its winding paths, lush greenery, towering trees, and beautiful summer light, the Arboretum offers an incredible variety of backdrops for couples looking for natural and candid engagement photography in Seattle.

For Allison and David, we spent a beautiful summer weekday evening exploring the Washington Arboretum together for their Seattle engagement session. The relaxed evening gave us plenty of time to wander through the gardens, enjoy the warm summer weather, and capture the genuine connection between the two of them without making the session feel overly posed.

A Summer Evening at the Washington Arboretum

One of my favorite things about photographing engagement sessions at the Washington Arboretum is how different every area feels. One minute you're surrounded by towering trees and dense greenery, and the next you're walking along an open path surrounded by seasonal plants and beautiful Northwest scenery.

For Allison and David's engagement photos, we took advantage of the natural beauty throughout the Arboretum while keeping the focus on them. Rather than spending the entire session posing for the camera, we focused on movement, conversation, laughter, and those little in-between moments that make photographs feel authentic.

As a Seattle engagement photographer, I love sessions like this because they allow couples to simply spend time together while I document what naturally happens. The result is a collection of photographs that feels more like the couple and less like a traditional posed photo shoot.

Candid Seattle Engagement Photography

If you're searching for a Seattle engagement photographer, the location is only part of the experience. I believe the best engagement photos come from creating an environment where couples can relax and actually enjoy being together.

Seattle has so many incredible locations for engagement photography, from Discovery Park and Alki Beach to the Washington Arboretum, Kerry Park, Gas Works Park, and the many beautiful trails throughout the Pacific Northwest.

For Allison and David, the Arboretum was the perfect choice. The greenery created a beautiful natural setting, while the warm summer evening light gave their photographs a timeless Seattle feel.

Their session was relaxed, playful, and full of genuine moments — exactly what I love about candid engagement photography.

Next Stop: Their Lake Union Wedding

The best part about this engagement session is that it won't be long before Allison and David are in front of the camera again!

Their wedding is coming up in late August at Imperia Lake Union, one of Seattle's beautiful waterfront wedding venues. After spending an evening getting to know them during their engagement session, I'm especially excited to document their wedding day and everything that comes with it.

From their engagement photos at the Washington Arboretum to their upcoming celebration on Lake Union, their wedding story is already off to a pretty amazing start.
