Persian fusion Colman Park Beach wedding
I knew when I met them for their consult a few months ago that Bobby and Kate’s wedding was going to be a good one, I just didn’t understand at the time HOW good it would be.
It’s rare that I don’t start a wedding with at least a little getting ready time but I met these two marriers at Colman Park Beach just before the wedding ceremony began. We walked around and did some couples portraits as their guests arrived and then it was time for the wedding ceremony to begin.
Their wedding ceremony was mostly secular but had a beautiful poem reading by Bobby’s uncle in Arabic, that was then translated into English by officiant Rebar. After saying their vows to each other they fed each other honey under a veil held by the matriarchs of the family as one ground sugar over them to promote sweetness in their marriage.
After taking some family portraits at the ceremony site with Mount Rainier in the background, we all made the short walk over to Mount Baker Community Club for the reception. It was a quick cocktail hour before dinner was served, but I don’t think anybody was mad because the food served by Bella Balducci’s was out of this world. When I made my plate and headed outside to eat it, one of the caterers was already out there and he told me all about the different Persian foods I was eating and what their origins were. He’s originally from Iran and you could hear in his voice how proud he was of his country and their culture. It was genuinely one of the best moments I’ve ever had at a wedding, and as I said the food was amazing.
Toasts from Bobby & Kate’s fathers followed dinner, and then we were led in a “wine chant” by their friend Cate. I’d never heard of this short poem/chant before but I have it memorized now for if I ever need it again!
Bobby organizes a music festival every year so they have a lot of musician friends and instead of having one awesome friend work the whole night, they asked a few of them to DJ sections of the night. We had one for cocktail hour, one for dinner, and one for dancing. But before we got to that, Bobby kicked off dancing with their own playlist of Persian music, and it got everyone up on the dance floor! His uncle from the poem reading was tearing up a storm, to the point where his shirt changed color over the half hour of dancing.
Just before I headed out they took a quick break from dancing to cut their cake, and then they headed back out on the dance floor to dance the night away!
