A sunny Washington Arboretum surprise proposal
Surprise proposal’s are stressful but thankfully Brendan thought of everything before showing up for his!
What’s the difference between a proposal and a surprise proposal I hear you ask? A proposal (in my mind at least) happens during a couple session. The person knows there’s a photographer and they know they’re going to a couples photoshoot. A surprise proposal is when the photographer stealthily follows the couple around and then captures the proposal happening without the proposee knowing it’s being captured! Typically we then do a couple portrait session afterward.
Brendan opted for a surprise proposal for Leyla and the way he set it up was quite genius. Did you know you can donate money to the Washington Arboretum and pick out a tree? I didn’t! But Brendan did, and he picked this beautiful rhodedenron bush that thankfully was in the midst of its beautiful bloom.
After telling Leyla that that’s why they were here he then pulled the ole UNO reverse card and said SURPRISE and got down on one knee in front of the tree. I don’t think Leyla knew it was coming but they both immediately burst into tears after she of course said yes.
Leyla then noticed me to which I immediately had to yell “I’m with him!” so she wasn’t weirded out by some guy hiding in the bushes taking photos of them. I went over and introduced myself, to both of them since Brendan and I had only talked via email up to now, and then we headed out into the park to take some more photos. They told me all about their relationship up to then and how excited Leyla was to FaceTime her family back home in Turkey as they were waking up due to the time difference.
